Phone Number Report: For several days I have been getting calls that hang up when I answer. Today, a woman called, said "Oh, hello..." then hung up. When I call back, I am asked for my loan number or social security number. When I enter the information, it states that they do not recognize my information. After a few times of that-- it disconnects. There is no way to reach a real person, ever. I contacted chase (at the number listed on my statement) The trouble with chase is that they are so big that no body seems to know if this is actually a working chase number or not, and different chase reps say different things (like always). Several chase employees stated that it was not one of their numbers, and a couple others said it was one of their auto-dialer collection numbers... I spent over two hours researching, and didn't get anywhere--except transferred a whole bunch, hung up on twice, and really frustrated. I am not going to take any chances, since I gave them personal information by entering my loan number/ssn. If you have entered your loan number and/or social security number when dialing this mystery 800 number, I would strongly suggest that you protect yourself-- just in case. I contacted my bank, who then gave me the number to equifax (
800 525 6285) and they placed a fraud alert on my credit report for 90 days so that if anyone tries to access my information, the creditor must notify me first to get permission. Equifax also notifies the other two reporting agencies so that you're safe for at least 90 days. They offer that "fraud alert" free of charge to anyone whose information may have been comprimised.
