Phone Number Report: A lady by the name of Carol called and left me a message that she was a mediator on a claim that was filed against me through Advanta Bank and I was going to be served with a subpoena. I needed to call Cathy back at 800-280-3800 x 4057. I had to listen to the message 4 times to understand what the lady was even saying.
When I called Cathy, she told me not to hang up while she got my file because I had a subpoena being served and I waited. She tried looking my up in their database under my first and last name, the number they contacted me at, and my social security number... and much to my suprise, she couldn't locate me. She asked if my name was Carrie and I told her no, and what my real name was. I also explain that I personally do not have any accounts with Advanta and I believe they had the wrong person. She was rude and told me she was 100% sure they had the right person but yet she couldn't find any of my information. She told me that the womans office that had my info was locked and I would have to call back tomorrow morning.
After being completely stressed about the situation, I called a co-worker whos sister is a Sheriff's Deputy and she thought it sounded like fraud. I also called Advanta Bank directly and they looked up my social security number and found nothing and told me I should pay no attention to the call. Afterwards, I decided to notify the 3 bureaus and was able to put a Fraud Alert on through Equifax. You can do this online and they notify the other 2 bureaus. I'm now getting ready to call my bank to start putting freezes on my accounts.
Now that I've done my research a little bit, I'm actually looking forward to making this call tomorrow morning. If push comes to shove, AEC will be the ones holding a subpoena!
