After several hours of pushing I got a supervisor to fine out who they had given my number to. I was told, and I checked it out and learned it's true, that ATT is legally bound to turn over people's numbers to another phone company when asked. I went to the police, the Senior Center, aas well as calling ATT. I had them cancel my number, but the number is still answered by a voice mail message. The police suggested I call everyone who'd use my number so I calle my doctors, credit card company, friends...because I don't know who's getting the info from the voice mail and probably caller ID. ATT gave me this number and claimed they didn't know who they'd given my info to. when I called someone said something like "L and P" and it was probably another phone company in the same building. He gave me another number of a place called Color Vision (866-416-8170) and when I called, the same person asnwered. He called himself Anthony. My number was already disconnected and I cancelled with ATT, changed my credit card so they couldn't continue to bill it, and am reporting this everywhere I can think of. I applied for a free, government-subsidized cell phone because ATT is the only company that provides landline service only to homes. I don't have TV or computer so I cannot have an active phone number with either of these places.
