How You Can Stop Unwanted Calls

Do Not Call List

The "Do Not Call" List

Add your number to the Do Not Call list, a national registry that protects your home and personal wireless numbers from unwanted solicitations.

Non-emergency robocalls require prior written or oral consent in all circumstances. Ask your phone company to offer robocall-blocking technology.

File a Phone Complaint

File a Complaint

If you receive a telephone solicitation that you think violates rules for telemarketers, you can file a complaint with the FCC.

Rules for Telemarketers

Under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the Federal Communications Commission has instituted the following rules for telephone marketing:

  • Anyone making a telephone solicitation call to your home is required to provide his or her name, the name of the person or entity on whose behalf the call is being made, and a telephone number or address at which that person or entity can be contacted.

  • Telephone solicitation calls are prohibited to your home before 8 am or after 9 pm.

  • Telemarketers are required to comply immediately with any do-not-call request you make during a call.
